Easter Seals of Southeastern Pennsylvania History and Mission Easter Seals of Southeastern Pennsylvania was established in 1936. Our local Easter Seals affiliate is one of 110 Easter Seals affiliates around the country that operate more than 450 program sites in the 50 United States, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Our mission is to "create solutions that change lives of children and adults with disabilities or other special needs and their families." Locally, Easter Seals serves children through and Approved Private School, special classrooms, summer programs, recreational programs, parent-infant programs, early intervention programs and various outpatient speech, physical and occupational therapy programs. Easter Seals of Southeastern Pennsylvania is not a United Way agency, and must raise its entire operating budget on its own without any funding from Easter Seals National Office. Public funding from the Department of Education, various school districts, County Mental Retardation Offices, Intermediate Units, agencies and private corporations, foundations and individuals enable Easter Seals to bring these and additional programs to our community. For more than 20 years, the National Health Council has ranked Easter Seals first among it's member agencies for the percentage of program dollars we allocate to providing direct services. Eighty-six cents of every dollar raised by our local Easter Seals is allocated for our direct health services.
