Assistive Technology & Communication Access

Helping children participate in learning, play, and daily routines by supporting communication, mobility, and independence.

Overview

Assistive technology (AT) helps children participate in learning, play, and daily routines by supporting communication, mobility, and independence. Our team provides evaluations, coaching, and customized tools to meet each child’s goals.

We offer a wide range of AT options from speech-generating devices and tablets to eye gaze technology, switch-access tools, and adapted toys. Our team follows the SETT (Student, Environment, Tasks, Tools) framework to determine the most appropriate technologies and supports.

By collaborating with families and school teams, we help integrate AT into children's routines and empower them to access communication, learning, and play more fully.

Our Programs

Assistive technology is included in our programs in the following ways:

  • Assistive technology evaluations and consultations for communication and learning
  • Use of AAC devices, switch-access tools, and eye gaze technology
  • Support for integrating AT tools into classrooms, therapy, and home settings
  • Modification of toys and learning tools to increase access and participation
  • Ongoing coaching for families and staff to ensure consistent use of tools across environments
